Virat Kohli reveals why he avoids social media, drops ‘not playing for achievements’ bombshell

After joining the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for the upcoming IPL 2025, Virat Kohli dropped a bombshell about his future. Earlier, there were reports that Virat Kohli may take a call on his celebrated international career after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

However, the former Indian captain made it clear that he is not going anywhere after winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai last week, saying he will leave the national team only at the stage from where they can dominate for at least one decade.

Many have been backing Kohli to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa if he maintains his form, as there is no question mark on his fitness level. Well, ahead of the IPL 2025, the Indian cricket superstar has emphasized that his motivation now comes purely from his love for the game.

The batting maestro is no longer chasing records but is playing with the sole purpose of enjoying cricket, as he is heading into the twilight phase of his illustrious career.

Speaking at the RCB event in Bengaluru, Virat Kohli said, “I am not playing for the achievements any more. I am playing just for the joy of the game.”

Meanwhile, Kohli has made it clear that social media plays no role in his life as he, the batting superstar, addressed the online uproar about his absence on social media platforms when it comes to posting anything related to the game.

With over 270 million followers on Instagram and 66.1 million fans on X/Twitter, the dashing right-handed batter is one of the most influential athletes. However, his social media activity continues to focus on brand promotions rather than cricketing milestones.

Following India’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory, Kohli’s posts featured back-to-back paid promotions—HSBC on March 10, a snack brand on March 11, and an energy drink on March 12. Despite the national triumph, there wasn’t a single post celebrating the team’s success in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This left many fans disappointed and frustrated.

However, Kohli, who once dominated social media platforms with his posts and interactions, now doesn’t care about fans’ online reactions. The Indian cricket icon believes that technology without purpose is a distraction, and he prefers to stay away from unnecessary noise.

Kohli further stated, “I don’t post on social media much because technology without a goal is destructive. Posting on social media doesn’t make anything different in my life. People’s comments don’t have any reaction on me, so I don’t have to post.”

Notably, Kohli had revealed his Yo-Yo score with his millions of fans in 2023, and for this breach, he was reportedly reprimanded by the BCCI. Since then, Kohli has posted very few posts on social media. He will be next seen in action in the IPL 2025, where RCB will face KKR on March 22 in Kolkata.
