Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group has successfully acquired a 67% majority stake in the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans from CVC Capital Partners. The acquisition was completed ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and received approval from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
The Titans were one of the two new teams introduced to the IPL after CVC Capital Partners secured the franchise through a bidding process in 2021 for ₹5,625 crore. The team delivered impressive performances in their debut season. They won the title in 2022 under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has approved the transfer of Gujarat Titans’ majority ownership from Irelia Sports India Private Limited (CVC Capital) to Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group. Torrent Group now holds a 67% stake in the Gujarat franchise, while CVC Capital retains the remaining 33%.

“It is understood that the sale was completed at an enterprise valuation of Rs 7522 crore, meaning Torrent bought the 67 percent stake for Rs 5035 crore. Torrent said it finalized the acquisition following the receipt of all necessary approvals, including from the BCCI,” the report read.
Shubman Gill Set to Lead Ahmedabad-Based Franchise in IPL 2025
CVC Capital purchased Gujarat Titans in 2022 for ₹5,625 crore, and over three years, the franchise’s value has risen by ₹1,897 crore—an increase of nearly 34%. After winning in their debut season, they reached the final again in 2023 but lost to Chennai Super Kings in a rain-affected match.
Ahead of the 2024 season, Hardik Pandya returned to Mumbai Indians, and Shubman Gill was appointed as the Titans’ new captain. However, the team struggled and finished eighth with five wins, missing out on the playoffs.
Shubman Gill will continue leading the team in the IPL 2025 season. Torrent Group initially announced its 67% stake acquisition in the franchise on February 12, but the deal awaited formal approval from BCCI, which has now been granted.
