Junail Zafar Khan, a Pakistani-origin club cricketer, has passed away after he collapsed during a local cricket match at Concordia College in Adelaide. The incident occurred on Saturday.
Khan, aged in his 40s, was playing for Old Concordians Cricket Club against Prince Alfred Old Collegians. He had fielded for 40 overs and batted for seven before collapsing unexpectedly at about 4 pm Australian Central Daylight Time (ACDT).

Severe Heat in Adelaide
South Australia has been experiencing very high temperatures over the past few days. The temperature during the match was reportedly more than 40 degrees Celsius, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
As per the rules of the Adelaide Turf Cricket Association, matches should be abandoned if the temperature is above 42 degrees Celsius. Because the temperature had not yet crossed that threshold, the match proceeded as planned.
Club’s Statement Regarding the Incident
Old Concordians Cricket Club issued a statement conveying their regret.
“We are deeply heartbroken over the loss of a valued member of our club. He tragically suffered a medical emergency while playing at the Concordia College oval today.”
The club also mentioned that paramedics made every effort to revive him, but he did not survive.
“Despite the best efforts of the medical team, he unfortunately could not be saved. Our thoughts and sincerest condolences are with his family, friends, and teammates at this challenging moment.”
Khan’s Background and Community Response
Khan relocated from Pakistan to Adelaide in 2013. He was employed in the IT sector while being an active local cricketer.
His untimely death has shocked the cricket community across the globe. Players as well as the fans have posted their condolences with his family.
