GT vs MI took place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (29th March). In what was the 9th game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Shubman Gill-led side beat the opposition by 36 runs to register their first win of the tournament.
Asked to bat, Gujarat Titans had a superb start to their innings as skipper Shubman Gill (38) and Sai Sudharsan (63) put Mumbai Indians under massive pressure with their 78-run opening stand, slamming bowlers all over the park.
Jos Buttler (39), at three, played a decent as well, providing support to Sudharsan as the duo together added 51 runs for the second wicket. However, after their wicket, Gujarat Titans struggled to get going as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
An 18-run knock by Sherfane Rutherford at the end powered Gujarat Titans to a total of 196 for eight. For Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya picked two wickets and returned with the figures of 2/29.
Mumbai Indians lost Rohit Sharma (8) in the first over, and then Ryan Rickelton (6) also fell early as the five-time champions were left at 35 for two. However, Tilak Varma (39) and Suryakumar Yadav (48) brought Mumbai back into their game with their 62-run stand for the third wicket.
But, as the innings progressed, they struggled with their timing and lost wickets at crucial times. Skipper Hardik Pandya (11) looked extremely torrid with the bat as Gujarat Titans bowlers kept putting pressure on the opposition. The target was too much for Mumbai Indians to chase in the end as they managed just 160 for six to lose the game by 36 runs.
