Kolkata Knight Riders, on Wednesday (March 26), beat Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets to open their account in the ongoing IPL 2025. Riding on Quinton de Kock’s brilliant knock of 97 not out, the defending champions chased down 152 inside 18 overs.
KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane won the toss and opted to bowl first, and his decision was completely justified by the bowlers. The KKR bowlers never really allowed the RR batters to settle and eventually restricted the Rajasthan-based outfit to 151/9.
KKR registers their 1st win of the season
The Royals were on 67/1 in the eighth over and were looking on course to post a big total. However, once Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Riyan Parag for 25, the floodgates opened. RR lost three more wickets in quick succession to find themselves reeling at 82/5 after 11 overs.
They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually finished their innings on 151/9. Dhruv Jurel top-scored for his side, scoring 33 runs off 28 balls. He was the only RR batter to reach the 30-run mark.
For KKR, their spinners Chakaravarthy and Moeen Ali stood out. Both the spinners picked up two wickets each while conceding less than six runs per over. Vaibhav Arora and Harshit Rana claimed two wickets apiece as well.
Chasing 152, KKR were off to a strong start thanks to Quinton de Kock. While Moeen Ali hardly did anything from one end before being run out for 5 in the seventh over, de Kock made sure to keep the scoreboard ticking at a good pace.
Rahane got the start but could not convert it into a big score and departed for 18. De Kock and Angkrish Raghuvanshi then shared an unbeaten stand of 83 runs to take KKR home in an emphatic manner.
