The Centre of Excellence of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to face a massive setback. As per the reports in Cricbuzz, it is learned that the head of the Sports Science wing, Nitin Patel, has decided to part ways with the newly built NCA.
This will come as a massive blow as Nitin Patel has been responsible for overseeing injury and workload management and rehabilitating both international and domestic cricketers. The reports claimed that the head of the Sports Science wing is serving his notice period and will be leaving NCA by the end of this month.

It is learned that the BCCI will be releasing an advertisement soon to find a replacement for Nitin Patel. He joined the NCA/Centre of Excellence in April 2022 and since then has done a lot of good things, including workload management and the rehabilitation of international cricketers.
Nitin Patel, during his tenure, oversaw a lot of players, including Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul, among others. He recently worked with Mohammed Shami, who made a comeback during the England series. He also is working with Bumrah, who has been out of action since January.
When Nitin Patel was appointed, the initial plan was to give him the top role at the newly created Sports Science wing. However, with a lot of injuries of late, the former BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Patel inaugurated the high-performance center to deal with injuries in September last year.

Shreyas Iyer and Jasprit Bumrah underwent timely surgeries in New Zealand and England, respectively, and their plan was devised in a way that they were 100% fit. Both the players played a key role for the team in the ICC World Cup 2023, where India reached the final.

Another key feature of the NCA was coordination with the Indian team and then-head coach Rahul Dravid. They were involved in the whole process of injury, workload, and rehab management. The players had a perfect recovery plan and made a comeback in less than expected time.
