The venue for the IPL 2025 match between KKR and LSG on April 6 is still not finalized with Kolkata Police raising its concerns over providing safety to two different events on the same date.
While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is scheduled to play a home game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 6, another big Indian festival ‘Ram Navami’ is also falling on the same day.
Due to the two big events on the same day, Kolkata Police had already expressed its concerns over providing adequate security for the IPL match. There were also speculations that the match might be moved to Guwahati but it wasn’t made official by the BCCI.

“Our priority will be to ensure safety” – Kolkata Police CP
Kolkata Police CP Manoj Verma spoke about the security arrangements during the match. He ensured full safety and claimed that everything is under control to host the IPL matches at Eden Gardens.
“There are two events on that day. Our priority will be to ensure safety for everybody. Based on that, we have written (the letter to propose the match). We are waiting for the official version (from BCCI). Adequate security arrangements have been made,” Verma said.
“There is nothing to say that things will not move as per plan. So far, everything is fine and with the organisers, we’ve held multiple meetings. With our team also, we’ve held multiple meetings and more than adequate arrangements have been made. So, we’re prepared,” he added.

When asked about rescheduling the match, Manoj Verma revealed that he hasn’t received anything from the BCCI yet. With two big events on the same day, the Police have expressed their concerns over providing security.
“Not received anything from the concerned authorities (about recheduling). But the Ramnavami event is there and match is also there. So, both the events are falling on the same date. We have certain issues and we have already pointed it out. So, we are waiting for the official version,” he said.
“We have already proposed for alternative days other than 6th April”, Verma replied when asked about the police’s readiness to provide security.
Will the KKR and LSG match be shifted?
According to Sportstar, IPL Governing Council chairman Arun Dhumal has made it clear that Kolkata will be the first preference to host the match. But if the match cannot be shifted to another date, the venue will change, possibly from Kolkata to Guwahati.

Guwahati seems to be a perfect alternative venue to host the KKR vs LSG match on April 6 in case Kolkata doesn’t host the game. Guwahati will also host two home games of Rajasthan Royals before this date and will be well prepared for this game as well.
The IPL 2025 will begin on March 22 with KKR facing RCB at Eden Gardens. However, the match is under rain threat due to persistent rains in the city in the lead-up to this game. Eden Gardens has been a fortress for KKR over the years and is a key reason for their success.
