India batter KL Rahul came up with a heartfelt message for Axar Patel after the all-rounder was appointed as the captain of Delhi Capitals for the IPL 2025. He extended his wishes towards the all-rounder, saying that he would always be with him.
After a long wait, Delhi Capitals finally unveiled their captain for the IPL 2025. Axar Patel was given the responsibility to lead the team as he was preferred over KL Rahul, who was one of the players in contention to captain the team in the upcoming edition.

Axar Patel, who was the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals, has been one of the vital cogs in the wheel for the franchise for the last few years. The kind of impact that he has made in the league has been impeccable and he arguably was the most deserving candidate to lead the team.
There were reports that Rahul was offered the Delhi Capitals captaincy but the keeper-batter rejected it. He has great captaincy experience as he captained Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants before joining Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 auction.

With Rahul not getting the captaincy of Delhi Capitals, many fans expressed their disappointment over the same, saying that keeper-batter should’ve led the team. However, the batter himself came up with the congratulatory message, clearing all the rumors about his dissatisfaction.

Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal talked about Axar Patel’s appointment as captain, saying that the all-rounder has blossomed into a brilliant, mature cricketer and they are confident that he will do a good job. He said that with Rahul and other senior players around, it would be the start of something special for the franchise. He said:
“From being an economical spinner who had an immediate impact when he came onto bowl, Axar has blossomed into a brilliant, mature cricketer whose all-round prowess was on full display in India’s T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy winning campaigns recently. I wish him good luck as he starts a new innings in his cricketing journey.
“With seniors like KL Rahul, Faf du Plessis and Mitchell Starc being part of our leadership group, I believe this is the start of something special for the Delhi Capitals,” said Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal.
The IPL 2025 is all set to begin on 22nd March. Delhi Capitals will be playing their first game against Lucknow Super Giants on 24th March.
