Dinesh Karthik’s blunt take on Rohit Sharma’s retirement statement

Former India cricketer Dinesh Karthik shared his take on Rohit Sharma’s response to his retirement rumors after the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said that the way the captain rubbished off all the rumors says a lot about him as a person.

India captain Rohit Sharma gave a strong reply to all the critics after he won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The premier batter was magnificent as a leader in the tournament as under him, the Men in Blue won the event without losing a single game.

Rohit was also vital with the bat throughout the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The India captain gave a powerful start to the team in almost every game before bringing his best with the bat in the final against New Zealand, when it mattered the most.

Rohit played a brilliant innings of 76 runs and took India close to the target. On a pitch that was tough for batting, the opening batter took his team off a flying start with the bat and put pressure on the opposition in the powerplay itself.

Ahead of the tournament, there were a lot of negative things about Rohit Sharma. There were a lot of rumors about his retirement as well. But the skipper came up with a strong response, saying that he is not going to retire until he enjoys playing the game.

Reacting to Rohit Sharma’s statement, he said that the India captain was very humorous but gave a strong message. He pointed out that the skipper straightaway mentioned that he won’t be in a hurry about his retirement. Speaking to Cricbuzz, he said:

“It pretty much sums up Rohit Sharma as a person,” Karthik playfully said, referring to the India skipper’s curt reply of “I am not retiring”. Very humorous about it but at the same time sending the message across: ‘Don’t be in a hurry to ask for my retirement. I’ll do it when I feel so.’”

“Rohit Sharma is one of the greatest, no doubt. He’s leaving a serious legacy. Each of them marked a generational change and a mindset shift,”

Dinesh Karthik also lavished rich praise on Virat Kohli, saying that big players know what it takes to do well in big matches. He further talked about Yashasvi Jaiswal and Varun Chakravarthy, who, according to him, had a pinpoint accuracy. He explained:

“They just know what it takes to do well in big matches. In the lead-up to a game, there are so many thoughts going on. But the way they channelise those thoughts and use that energy on the field is what makes them special. Come the big game, these guys stand up.

“Jaiswal is a bonafide opener. When he gets his turn, he’s going to do phenomenally well. His accuracy is his biggest strength, and that will always help him succeed in white-ball cricket.”
