Glenn McGrath attacks Hussain, Atherton over bold CT 2025 claims

Former Australia cricketer Glenn McGrath shared his take on India having an unfair advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He said that the Rohit Sharma-led side deserved the credit for the way they played and there wasn’t any advantage for them.

India, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after they beat New Zealand in the final of the tournament. The match took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai, and it was the Men in Blue who emerged victorious by 4 wickets.

India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 undefeated

India was extremely dominant throughout the whole tournament. They won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 without losing a single game, which talks about the kind of effort that the entire team gave. The Rohit Sharma-led side beat Bangladesh, Pakistan, New Zealand, Australia in the semi-final and the Kiwis in the final.

India played all their games in Dubai throughout the tournament. This was because of the hybrid model that was followed in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. But this didn’t go well with many fans and experts as they criticized Men in Blue.

They were of the opinion that the tournament was devised in a way so that India could win. There were talks that the Rohit Sharma-led side didn’t have to travel much and were very used to the conditions, which helped them to win the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The pitches took spin and India played well – Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath talked about India’s campaign in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, saying that they were a team to beat. He stressed the pitches offered spin and the Rohit Sharma-led side played well. Speaking to the Times of India, he said:

“They were the team to beat and they played well. Virat Kohli came back to form, as did the other guys. Australia had their chances in the semifinal, obviously we had a few of our bowlers who were out. The pitches took spin and India played well,”said Glenn McGrath.

I do not think that they had an unfair advantage – Glenn McGrath

Glenn McGrath also shared his take on whether India had an unfair advantage in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. He stressed that there wasn’t any other option as India don’t travel to Pakistan. He added that Men in Blue played to the conditions and raising calls for unfair advantage was like calling India playing in India and Australia playing in Australia unfair. He explained:

“It is the way it is. India does not travel to Pakistan anymore. There was only one other thing — the matches had to be played in Dubai. You have to give credit to India, they played to the conditions.

“They know how to play on spinning tracks. I do not think that they had an unfair advantage. It is like saying there is an unfair advantage if India play all their matches in India, if Australia play all their matches in Australia,” said Glenn McGrath.
