Hazratullah Zazai’s 2-year-old daughter passes away; Karim Janat confirms devastating news

Afghanistan cricketer Hazratullah Zazai is in a difficult time with the heartbreaking loss of his daughter. The tragic news was confirmed by his teammate, Afghanistan cricketer Karim Janat, who shared it on his official social media. Janat extended his condolences to Zazai and his family during this time.

Zazai was not included in the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The batter made his international debut in 2016 against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and has since represented Afghanistan in 16 ODIs and 45 T20Is. He has scored 361 runs in ODIs, while he has amassed 1,161 runs in T20Is.

The Afghanistan cricket community has come together to support Hazratullah Zazai, offering messages of sympathy and solidarity.

Karim Janat expressed deep sorrow on social media, calling Zazai a “close friend like a brother.” He urged everyone to keep Zazai and his family in their thoughts and prayers as they cope with the tragic loss of his daughter.

“I am deeply saddened to share with you all that my close friend like brother, Hazratullah Zazai, has lost his daughter. My heart aches with sorrow for him and his family during this incredibly difficult time. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate through this tragic loss. My deepest condolences go out to Hazratullah Zazai and his family,” Janat wrote.

Hazratullah Zazai Last Played for Afghanistan in T20I Against Zimbabwe

Hazratullah Zazai made headlines by hitting six sixes in an over off left-arm spinner Abdullah Mazari while playing for Kabul Zwanan in the 2018 Afghanistan Premier League. He scored 62 runs off just 17 balls in that game at a staggering strike rate of 364.70.

Zazai holds the second-highest individual score in T20I history. The southpaw smashed 162 runs off 62 balls against Ireland in Dehradun, including 11 fours and 11 sixes.

The 26-year-old has not played for Afghanistan in 2025. He last played for the team in a T20I series against Zimbabwe in December 2024. He has registered one century and five half-centuries in white-ball formats.

Afghanistan Failed to Advance to ICC Champions Trophy 2025 Semi-Finals

The Afghanistan national cricket team failed to advance to the semi-finals in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side started the tournament with a 107-run defeat against South Africa. However, they bounced back with an eight-run victory over England in a closely fought clash.

Their campaign ended with a washout against Australia, finishing third in the group table. South Africa and Australia advanced to the semi-finals from the group. It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan reached the knockout stage in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in the West Indies and the USA.

Several Afghanistan cricketers will feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after being picked by their respective franchises in the mega auction. Noor Ahmad, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Azmatullah Omarzai will feature in the tournament.
